What does it mean to be Stranded Together?
To use a cliche, each of us is an island of experience. No one can truly understand what another person is thinking. Language does not permit this. Take love, for instance. Everyone who has ever been in love knows what love is. But we can never completely explain to another person exactly how we feel when we are in love. Everyone knows what love is, but, sadly, we cannot tell anyone. It’s the greatest secret that everyone knows.
But to stop here would be too easy. To stop searching for meaning and understanding just because we cannot know exactly and specifically what ‘truths’ may be out there would be a collosal, tragic failure. We are all in this together, every person. We are each and equal component of humanity, and everyone’s experiences are worthwhile and valid.
Through Stranded Together, I’ll post my thoughts and writings on the human condition, the place of the individual within humanity, and vice versa. I’ll also be looking for other writers and pieces that celebrate this theme whether it’s intentionally done or not.
